Ballad, Benevolence, Beijing Olympics

To mark the 100-day countdown to the 2008 Olympic Games, a beautiful ballad called “Beijing Welcomes You” debuted in Beijing on April 17, 2008, with about 100 popular singers involved in composing and performing the song to voice Chinese people's hospitality and warm welcome to the whole world.

Production of the song began in early March and took two weeks to compile recordings by 100 singers and six days to complete the final production work, according to Zhao Dongming, director of BOCOG's Cultural Activities Department.

“Although each singer has only one sentence of the song, all of them were very enthusiastic about the Beijing Olympics.” Zhao said. “Beijing Welcomes You” seems like a common and simple greeting, but it expresses Chinese people's confidence and sincerity.

“As a gentle greeting we frequently hear, ‘Beijing Welcomes You’ also accompanies the whole process of preparing for the Beijing Olympic Games. In the next 100 days it will convey more special meanings, showcasing Chinese people's happiness and confidence in presenting the world a successful Olympic Games.”

With lyrics by renowned Hong Kong talent Lam Jik and music by famous composer Xiao Ke of the mainland, “Beijing Huan Ying Ni” is expected to create a stir.

“Beijing Welcomes You” attracted many celebrities, such as Hong Kong pop star Nicholas Tse, top Taiwanese model Lin Chi-ling and mainland singer and actor Lin Yilun. They have not only attended the releasing ceremony of “Beijing Welcomes You” but will also participate in shooting a music video for the song in the capital in the next few days.
