Poems to Mourn Children Who Died in Terrible Quake

Mum and Dad, Don’t be Sad

Mum and Dad,

Are you calling me there?

Yes, it’s your voice.

When I was a new-born baby

And later a school-age kid,

You called me with the same soothing air.

I will fall into dead sleep soon,

Lying under the hubris with my arms bare.

How I wish you could come near

To cover bedclothes upon me

And find my shoes

Lost on the way to dodge the quake nightmare.

Mum and Dad,

How I wish you could come near

To see me off to Heaven.

I just want one more sweet kiss from Dad

And a hug from Mum with care.

I’m not lonely on the way to Heaven.

Many boys and girls of my age

Make the journey jovial.

Dad, bring their loved ones here

To dress them neatly.

Mum,

We’re good kids.

We study hard

To make you proud.

But…

Mum and Dad,

I’m lying on the schoolyard,

Schoolmates and teachers on my sides here and there.

Yesterday’s happy times jump into my mind.

Here, we had fun with rope skipping and shuttlecock kicking.

Here, we wore the red scarf

And became proud Young Pioneers.

Here, we made swear to study hard

And make progress every day.

Here, flowers made school life jubilant

And smiling young faces are everywhere.
