Mirroring Beijing’s Past Glory

 

Buddhist sculptures

The Capital Museum is well-known for its collection of Buddhist sculptures. The exhibits are all precious treasures of the museum, ranging from the statue of Sakyamuni in the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) to the Jingdezhen blue-and-white porcelain of a Bodhisattva in the Yuan Dynasty.

Made in: Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534)

Specifications: 33 centimeters high, 15.5 centimeters wide, and 12 centimeters thick

Excavation: unearthed in Yanqing District, Beijing

Displayed at: the Capital Museum

Gold-Painted Standing Statue of Sakyamuni

Made in: the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)

Specifications: 172 centimeters high; the base is 18 centimeters high.
