Sheng (male)
Sheng is the male role in Peking Opera, which, according to the character's age, personality and status, is mainly subdivided into Laosheng, Xiaosheng, Wusheng and Wawasheng.
Dan (female)
According to the character's age, status, personality and acting style, the Dan role is further divided into the Zhengdan, Huadan, Daomadan, Wudan, Laodan and Caidan.
Jing (painted face, male)
Jing, also known as Hualian (mostly male), is face-painted male roles that are straightforward, bold and unconstrained.
Chou (clown, male or female)
Chou may be a kind-hearted, humorous and funny fellow. He can also be very wicked or treacherous.
