From the Old and New Stone Age findings excavated in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, we see the Plateau was occupied by humans as early as 50,000-60,000 years ago. The distribution of the Plateau residents became basically fixed some 5,000-6,000 years ago. In southern and northern Tibet, numerous New Stone Age objects have been found. Tibetans are descendants of these people, who styled the land where they multiplied "Bod". "Bod" was translated into "Tubo" in Chinese during the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties and "Zang" ever since the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
