Nationwide campaign launched to regulate cultural market

The Ministry of Culture launched a nationwide campaign from July 1 to October 31, establishing new administrative policies and regulations to control cultural market across the country.

Zhang Xinjian, Market Division deputy director at the Ministry of Culture

According to Zhang Xinjian, Market Division deputy director at the Ministry of Culture, this campaign will focus on six main tasks including: further purifying social and cultural environment; cracking down on illegal cultural products and services; conducting special checks on recreational and entertainment venues; strengthening the management and supervision of net cafés and on the animated cartoon market; and strengthening inspection on culture service providers.

With the summer holiday approaching, major efforts will be made to check venues such as net cafés, video game parlors and karaokes - particularly in China’s rural areas - to determine whether they are breaking the law by letting minors into their establishments, which is against regulations during summer holiday season. Unlicensed net cafés and entertainment venues will be suspended and computer gambling games at entertainment venues will be prohibited.
