By tradition, China's scholarly elite pursued artistic achievement alongside a study of the Confucian Classics – a mission that requiring mastering the four "treasures" --- ink, ink stone, paper and brush. (These are known as wen fang si bao in Chinese.)
In mid-July, Beijing welcomed in the Great Hall of the People 44 folk artists, most of whom were aged around 70, to award them the title “Master of Making Four Treasures of the Study”. The Chairman of the Chinese Association of the Four Treasures of Study called the ceremony a “milestone moment.”
