Macao launches film event

The first Macao International Movie Festival will run for eight days starting Dec 26.

More than 100 films from China and abroad will compete for six awards, including best picture, director, screenplay, actor, actress and new performer. The organizing committee seeks more candidates before Nov 15.

Beloved actor Ge You (pictured) will lead the jury, and director You Xiaogang will serve as the special consultant.

The festival will also provide a platform for copyright licensing. Highlights include an opening ceremony featuring a flower parade, a forum on Chinese kungfu films and an expo of international film, TV and animation works, and peripheral products.

It is the first time for the special administrative region to hold an international film festival since the former European colony was returned to China in 1999.

Amusement industry fair

Insiders from home and abroad will discuss ways to upgrade the country's amusement industry at the 2009 China International Games and Amusement Fair in Guangdong province's Zhongshan from Nov 5 to Nov 7.

Zhongshan was one of the earliest production bases when the industry emerged in China in the 1980s. The sector has developed rapidly in recent years. Organizers hope the fair will promote innovation, help regulate and diversify the management of amusement places and improve the image of China's games and amusement industries.

TV and film event to open

The 5th Beijing Television Programs Promotion Conference and the Forum on Film and TV Industry will open in suburban Beijing's Huairou district tomorrow and last two days.

More than 80 broadcasters from home and abroad will bring more than 150 TV series to the meeting.

About 20 Internet companies will discuss with film and TV show producers different ways to achieve win-win relationships despite the prevalence of online videos.

It's the first time for the event to be held in Huairou, where film studios have sprung up over the past decade. China Film Group, the leading media group in China, has a movie production base in this eastern suburb.

Since its inauguration in August 2007, the event has proven to be the most effective platform for the trade of TV products and films, and the most influential forum on the TV and film industry in Beijing.
