The predecessor of the Symphony Orchestra of China (SOC) was the Central Orchestra. The present name was given in 1996. It is an artistic performing institution under the Ministry of Culture.
Duties and tasks: Create and per form classical Chinese and foreign music - mainly symphonies; and perform chorus and chamber music.
Establishment: SOC has Art Administrative Department, Band, Public Relations and Development Department, Social Music Institute, Beijing Music Hall and an affiliated chorus.
Major achievements: SOC has rehearsed world-famous symphonies and Succeeded in the exploration of music season. It has a great number of famous musicians.
