The Chinese Handball Association (CHA) was founded in the city of Baoding, North China's Hebei Province, in September 1979. Based in Beijing, the CHA is a national non-governmental organization. The CHA became a formal member of the International Handball Federation in August 1980.
Tasks of the CHA are:
* to increase public interests and participation in handball, and organize public activities;
* to organize international games and promote international exchanges;
* to organize national handball games;
* to formulate rules on coaches and players and work out competition systems;
* to organize training of coaches, judges, and players, and work out standards on the evaluation of them;
* to select and recommend players and coaches for national handball teams;
* to assist training of the national teams and their participation in international games;
* to organize research programs.
Under the CHA there are the National Committee, the Secretariat, the Organizing Committee, the Competition Committee, the Coaches Committee, the Judges Committee, the Technical Committee, the Rules Committee, the Publicity Committee, the Development Committee, the Research Committee, and the Medical Committee.
