Chen Lu

 

Chen Lu, known as the Butterfly Queen on the Ice, was born in city of Changchun in Northeast China's Jilin Province on November 4, 1976. She began to practice figure skating at the age of four.  

In 1987, she took part in the National Figure Skating Championships and started to show the audience her talent. Two years later, when she appeared in the event again, she overwhelmed all the opponents to claim the gold. From then on, she defended her national title in four successive years.

In 1992, she finished 6thin the Winter Olympics, becoming the first Chinese skater to squeeze into the best six in major international figure skating competitions.

Two years later, she won the bronze in the 17thWinter Olympics. In 1995, China had its first figure skating world champion after Chen claimed the title in the World Figure Skating Championships.

Chen finished 2ndin the 1996 World Skating Championships before collecting the bronze in the 18thWinter Games in 1998. Then Chen Lu retired.
