Sun Fuming

 

Sun Fuming, standing at 1.78m tall and weighing 110kg, is one of China's best women judoists and has won gold medals at all major domestic and international competitions.

She was born in the city of Tieling in Northeast China's Liaoning Province. She began to practice shot and weightlifting in 1987 before she finally turned to judo. After that, she started to show her talent in judo and entered the Liaoning provincial team in 1990.

Four years later, she claimed the women's open class title in the National Judo Championships. In 1995, she finished 1st in women's open class in the National Judo Championships and 2nd in women's open class in the World University Games and 2nd in the women's open class in the World Judo Championships.

In 1996, Sun consolidated her position in women's judo, collecting titles in the World University Games, National Judo Championships and the Atlanta Olympics.

In 1997, Sun claimed women's over 72kg category title in the 2nd East Asian Games and ranked 2nd in the open class in the National Games.

In the 1999 National Women's Judo Championships, Sun swept the titles in women's over 78kg category and open class.

One year later, she finished 2nd in women's over 78kg category and 1st in women's open class in the National Judo Championships. In this year, she was also champion of women's open class in the Asian Judo Championships.

Sun Fumin was elected China's Ten Best Athletes of 1996 and in 1999 she was voted "the Fifty Best Athletes of New China".

Sun is a cheerful person, likes listening music and reading martial art novels.
