Wang Yifu

 

Wang Yifu, a famous shooter inChina, was born in the city ofLiaoyanginNortheast China'sLiaoningProvinceonDecember 4, 1960. He is the first Chinese athlete to have participated in five successive Olympics.

Wang started to practice shooting when he was 16 years old and entered the Liaoning Provincial team two years later.

In 1982, he collected the bronze in men's free pistol in the 9thAsian Games and finished 6thin men's slow-fire free pistol in the World Shooting Championships. In 1984, he claimed men's slow-fire free pistol bronze.

Three years later, he collected men's small-bore slow-fire free pistol title in the National Shooting Championships and broke the world record.

In 1991, he beat all the opponents to win the men's air pistol in the World Cup final. In the 1992 Olympic Games, Wang collected men's air pistol gold and free pistol silver.

Four years later, he was silver medallist of men's slow-fire air pistol. And in 2000, he went toSydneyto take part in his fifth Olympics, winning men's air pistol silver.

After the event, Wang and his wife enteredTsinghuaUniversity, one of the most prestigious universities inChina, to study.
