Costume in the Shang Dynasty

 

Chinese characters came into being in the Shang Dynasty (17th- 11thcentury BC). Most characters of the time were hieroglyphs, and some were even pictures. Human figures excavated and those inscribed on bones or tortoise shells showed that the system of costumes and adornments was gradually taking form, with their functions shifting from just practicality to decoration and aesthetics.
