The revolutionary site of Wayaobao is located in Wayaobao inZichang County,ShaanxiProvince.
From December 1935 to July 1936, the site served as the setting for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Before the Anti-Japanese War, the well-known Wayaobao Meeting was also held there.
In late December 1935, facing a Japanese invasion, Mao Zedong presided over the Political Bureau Meeting of the Central Committee of the CPC in a cave dwelling in Wayaobao (the Wayaobao Meeting). On December 25, the Decision on the Present Political Situation and Party's Tasks was adopted, which described the CPC's strategies and tasks under the new situation and the political line of setting up the National Anti-Japanese United Front.
The Wayaobao Meeting marked a turning point in the CPC's political line during the Land Revolution (1927-1937). On December 27, Mao gave the report,On Strategies Against Japanese Imperialism, at the meeting -- which included activists from the Catholic Church of the city of Wayaobao, explaining the base of the Party's policy of the United Front and thus establishing the theoretical base for the National Anti-Japanese United Front.
The site of Wayaobao Meeting consists of a row of five cave dwellings made of brick. The first cave from the left served as the living room for the staff; the second was Mao's living room; the third was designated for the Wayaobao Meeting; and the fourth and the fifth rooms also served as meeting rooms. In addition, the old residences of Mao, Zhou Enlai, the former site of the station of the Military Commission of the CCP, and so on, can also be found there.
