Former Sites of the Hunan-Western-Hubei Base

 

The former sites of the Hunan-Western-Hubei Base are scattered throughout Qujiawan District inHonghuCityand Zhoulaozui District inJianli County,HubeiProvince.

In 1928, He Long, Zhou Yiqun, Deng Zhongxia, Duan Dechang and He Jinzhai, to name a few, led the guerrilla wars at the Hunan-Huber Border. They started the Hunan-Hubei Border Revolutionary Base and established the Fourth Army of China Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. Later, in 1930, the Honghu Revolutionary Base was established, as well as the Sixth Army of China Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. The Hunan-Huber Border Revolutionary Base and the Honghu Revolutionary Base then teamed up to form the Hunan-Western-Hubei Revolutionary Base and the Hunan-Western-Hubei Branch of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the Hunan-Western-Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC, the Provincial Soviet Government, the Provincial Revolutionary Military Committee and other offices. From July 1931 until April 1932, Zhoulaozui District inJianliCountywas the capital for the Hunan-Western-Hubei Soviet Region, followed by Qujiawan.

There are 35 revolutionary sites and four ruins remaining in Qujiawan, which mainly include the Hunan-Western-Hubei Provincial Military Commission, the site of the Provincial Party Committee, the site of the Red Flag Daily office and the site of Hunan-Western-Hubei Provincial Military Commission. The Qujiawan Exhibition Hall of theHonghuRevolutionaryHistoryMuseumhas also been set up.

Zhoulaozui has maintained 48 revolutionary sites, which mainly include the Hunan-Western-Hubei Revolutionary Base and the Hunan-Western-Hubei Branch of the Central Committee of the CPC; the Hunan-Western-Hubei Provincial Committee of the CPC; the Provincial Soviet Government; the Provincial Revolutionary Military Committee; the meeting place of the Third Representative Assembly of Workers, Peasants, Soldiers and Poor People; and the old residence of Duan Dechan, Xia Xi, He Long and Zhou Yiqun. In Zhoulaozui, the Memorial Hall of the Revolutionary History and the Memorial Pavilion to the Revolutionary Martyr Liu Xhixun have also been erected.
